Safari Check List

Here is a comprehensive guide, ensuring you are well prepared, and have all the essentials for a seamless and enjoyable self drive safari.

CLIMATE AND SEASONS:

Zimbabwe has two primary seasons: a warm, wet summer (the Green Season) from November to April, and a cool, dry winter from May to October.

The specific seasonal characteristics vary as follows:

Summer (November – April):

This is the rainy season, known for lush landscapes and abundant birdlife. Rainfall typically occurs as brief afternoon thunderstorms. Temperatures average 25°C to 30°C, often soaring higher in low-lying areas like the Zambezi Valley.

Winter (May – August):

The dry season features sunny, pleasant days with clear blue skies and cooler nights. Average daytime temperatures range from 20°C to 25°C, but nights can drop to freezing in high-altitude areas. This is the peak season for wildlife viewing as animals gather around dwindling water sources.

Hot & Dry (September – October):

A brief, transitional hot season precedes the rains. Temperatures frequently exceed 35°C, making it a prime time for Zimbabwe Safaris because vegetation is sparse and animal visibility is at its highest.
